The notion of AI making the implicit explicit is interesting and I wonder if anyone is having success with it. Anecdotally I've heard from several people that they find it easier to be vulnerable with an AI assistant than a manager or even a therapist
Yeah, the coach/therapist idea is extremely compelling:
- Very low-cost
- Always on
- Trained in best practices
- Completely safe - no worries about being judged
- Could get access to everything you've said/written (vs. 45-min/week chat)
- Could do real data-based analysis of your progress over time (as a data nerd you'd love that)
Plus think of the self-improvement beyond a "chat"...For example, a zoom plug-in that gives you feedback on your performance in the meeting or sales pitch. I did a quick & dirty test by feeding meeting transcripts into ChatGPT and asking it for suggestions and emotional analysis. Absolutely fascinating results.
If millions of people are suddenly getting trusted coaching and learning concepts about personal development, we could hit some pretty big breakthroughs in happiness and much more.
Fantastic story you collected here Bob, I've always been very curious about how these would go when they collect so much raw data and ELT isn't used to being critical of itself. Just had this conversation on my departure from the role I just moved on from with a few ELT members.
Note I can contribute to - the 'why a woman's voice' in the USAF was always a bit shrouded as to the actual reasons, but it is more prevalent along with a very much no longer en vogue nickname. Some reported saying both genders listened more effectively to a female-sounding voice, another reason is with male-heavy crews and radio voices it's more likely to cut through the saturation.
I had male, female, and 'weird robot-like' through the career, not confident it affected behavior but think the most effective alarms were the straight up screeching tones.
Second thought /reaction: what if the same model was applied to a board of directors? Would the model prioritize "purely" shareholder value? At the expense of all else? To what extent? Would it require guardrails to ensure basic operations are running with minimal/optimized staff? Would functions still exist? Which ones? So. Many Questions. Thank you again for the highly provocative and brilliant piece.
Many questions, indeed. A friend of my shot me a private email saying he created a Board of AIs for his business and consults with it (them?) daily. He's going to share more details with me soon.
This is VERY timely. We are currently discussing doing almost the exact same thing - adding an AI bot to our board. The AI would be trained with all the financial and operational information about our company.
You got me.
Me too. Hook line and sinker.

Choked on my coffee at: "Great! I’ve just scheduled time for today, right after your massage and just before you leave for your daughter’s recital."
This is unequivocally (almost unbelievably) brilliant Bob. How to share, how to share...

Great life experience add--fascinating!

Wow, you've got to share the output of this! Truth is stranger than fiction :)
